What is the difference between a Psychologist and a Counsellor ?
Psychologists must have completed extensive university training and must meet and abide by the strict criteria and guidelines set by the relevant registration body in their state. Our psychologist is fully registered with the Psychologist's Board of Queensland and is a members of the Australian Psychological Society. Anyone, without adequate training, can call themselves a Counsellor.
Do I need to get a referral from my GP to see a Psychologist ?
No, a referral is not required to see a Psychologist. However you can obtain a Medicare Rebate through a Mental Health Care Plan obtained from your GP.
How long does a session last ?
A counselling session is 50 minutes in duration. We ask you to allow a further 10 minutes to attend to paperwork and booking your next appointment.
What type of treatment strategies can I expect ?
Treatment strategies vary dependant on the person. They predominantly draw from the client centred and evidence based therapies of Compassion Focussed Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Motivational Interviewing EMDR and Acceptance and Commitment Training.
